Yahoo Site Explorer Shutting Down This Year

Yahoo has just announced on their blog that they will be shutting down one of the most popular backlinks tools, Yahoo Site Explorer.

According to their announcement they have been putting much effort into Bing webmaster tools and the transition from Yahoo to Bing. So once they transfer all the data they plan to shut down Yahoo Site Explorer, which should be some time later in the year.

Bing has been adding new features, one of which is the inbound links statistics. The question here is if Bing data will be as detailed as Yahoo’s. One thing is certain, we will all miss Yahoo Site Explorer, one of the best backlink discovery tools, especially the best one that was free.

Also, for all of you that use Yahoo’s API you will also have to plan a transition to new services as they have scheduled API termination for September 15, 2011.
