Time Sensitive Image Search – New Google Update
A month ago Google updated its image search function by finally bringing image search using images to the table. Before that we had to use websites and plugins like TinEye, which works quite well actually. Now Google expands more into their image search after the redesign by adding recent images function.
As you can see on the image to the left, down at the bottom is a link that says Any Time or Past Week. The past week link allows you to search for images that were indexed in the last few days, which is a nifty feature. Hopefully they will expand this to full time scaling search like with web search where you can see the results from the last hour, 24 hours, week, month, a year or even set your own custom date range.
This is a great feature if you wish to find images from the recent events like sport games, concerts or other media events, or maybe even find new designs and infographics, it all depends on your tastes and needs.
On another note, Google is obviously enhancing their entire search engine, images just being a part of them. So not only can we now use image search with images and see recent ones, but we can now have an unlimited upload of images and videos under 15 minutes on Picasa if we upload via Google+. The usual storage was set to a maximum of 1 GB, but Google felt generous and now the world can be flooded with image uploads. Another way to look at it is that Google wants a bigger database of images to power their image search by images function, or maybe not.
