The talk of the SEO and tech community for the past two days is definitely Search Plus Your World, the buzz is on, but why so much buzz? A regular user might find this update to be very useful and it’s not so hard to grasp how to use it and for what purposes. But for us that work in the industry this update changes a lot, I dare say even more than Panda did, and sorry to say, but this is another step that will leave link builders out of work.

Let’s clarify Search Plus Your World a bit. As posted on Google’s blog[1]:

“We’re transforming Google into a search engine that understands not only content, but also people and relationships. We began this transformation with Social Search, and today we’re taking another big step in this direction by introducing three new features:

Personal Results, which enable you to find information just for you, such as Google+ photos and posts—both your own and those shared specifically with you, that only you will be able to see on your results page;

Profiles in Search, both in autocomplete and results, which enable you to immediately find people you’re close to or might be interested in following; and,

People and Pages, which help you find people profiles and Google+ pages related to a specific topic or area of interest, and enable you to follow them with just a few clicks. Because behind most every query is a community.

Together, these features combine to create Search plus Your World. Search is simply better with your world in it, and we’re just getting started.”

So everything about this update can be seen on Google’s blog and several other news sites that covered the story and functions of this update, but what is the significance for SEOs and the future of internet marketing?

More effort on social engagement. This is the number one thing that will change for webmaster, SEOs and businesses online. If you think about it, with ultra personalized searches users will now be able to see a share or tweet from an influencer will mean like a top authority link. So instead of fishing for links all the time companies and SEOs that want to succeed online will have to focus more on social media engagement. On the bright side we knew this was coming, so a great number of online businesses got ahead of this.

If you haven’t started building your social audience this is the last train to do so. Websites with active audiences will be on top, so we will see less spam as network sites with no social engagement will never be near the first page for personalized results.

More focus on high end link building. Link building is not over yet and there is still work for good link builders. Low level links will mean less and less and eventually become obsolete, but high authority links are going to play a major role. So another prediction coming true, focusing on high authority links should be the priority of any SEO company. Securing top domains and evergreen links will still mean a lot for search engine placement.

Search Patterns Changing. This is a prediction but a logical one. Since the number of personalized searches will increase it is logical that Google will increase serving the results based on hot topics on social networks, which will directly change a small portion of search patterns over time. This is something to study and watch over the next few months to get insights and take advantage of.

Google made another step to personalize search results, this time a big one. There are certainly more changes that will come and that will be caused by this update, as SEOs we need to monitor the situation and change with it. The SEOs and webmasters that don’t follow up on this change will be left behind.
