Please Fix Position Sorting in Google Webmaster Tools

NOTE: Google has corrected this problem in January 2012 Webmaster Tools interface update.

Hello Google,

Instead of scraping your results I choose to use Google Webmaster Tools to check my clients’ rankings. There is just this one thing that drives me crazy and that is the way you sort the ranking phrases.

Step 1: Default shows phrases sorted by impressions. Cool.

Step 2: Sort by position. And now at the top I see hundreds of phrases with no position.

Step 3: If I click again, I see phrases which rank at position 300 and such.

Step 4: Sort top down again and click through pages of results to get to position 1, 2 and 3… click a lot!

Wouldn’t it be better to just push the non-recorded position phrases below the worst ranking phrase? Treat it as 999. Or give us a filter to show only phrases with recorded position. I know that there is an export function and I know that we should not obsess over rankings. All this is clear to me. I like to use your tools and I would like it a lot better if you were to fix this one thing for me.

Yours truly,

Dejan
