One way of getting great links without much link building effort is to tap into your competitor’s backlinks. Do it to an SEO company though and they will immediately notice what you are doing. Today we started receiving email notifications about replies to some pretty old blog and forum posts and the replies were coming from people called SEO and SEO Company and Search Engine Optimisation.
Here are a few examples:
This wouldn’t be so unusual if it didn’t happen all at once on all these random and fairly old blog and forum posts. So there you go, an SEO company called WebProfits linktapped us!
There is nothing wrong with that they did though, competitor research is a normal thing. To look at it from 100% whitehat point of view, the problem is in the fact that their true intention was to get links and nothing to do with contribution of content to places where they left comments. Mr. Cutts wouldn’t like that, but then again – he doesn’t like a lot of things.
We didn’t go as far as checking other competitors but it is likely WebProfits also tapped into other SEO company backlinks (E-web, Arrow, ROI…etc). I believe we did the same at one stage as well, but there are so many other great places where you can get exposure by participating in the blogosphere and social media that the above mentioned exercise almost makes no sense. Anyway, it looks like they are doing some link building at the moment so we wish them a nice jump in the search results.
