Google Webmaster Tools Now Offer Search Queries Alerts

With a few new updates to Google Webmaster Tools, Google team decided to add one more, one that compliments the recent addition of crawl errors alerts [1].

GWT now offers alerts for search queries [2].  Javier Tordable of Google wrote:

“The Search Queries feature in Webmaster Tools shows, among other things, impressions and clicks for your top pages over time. For most sites, these numbers follow regular patterns, so when sudden spikes or drops occur, it can make sense to look into what caused them. Some changes are due to differing demand for your content, other times they may be due to technical issues that need to be resolved, such as broken redirects. For example, a steady stream of clicks which suddenly drops to zero is probably worth investigating.”

As you can imagine this will make the life of a regular webmaster and SEO a bit easier, as new notifications will be sent directly to our inboxes. The only question is when? Will a slight fluctuation lead to a mail, or only major ones? This is something that GWT team needs to experiment on and we will keep track of the situation, so for now, hold your horses and check GWT regularly, don’t rely on alerts from Google just yet.
