Google Gives Birth to Snippet Quadruplets

Google has updated the search result page for branded searches and now shows “quadruplet” listings. First snippet is of a regular size with the addition of shortcuts and more results link, while the other three have a compact description. Since we made our homepage snippet nice and short our quadruplet listings look quite consistent.

Google Search Snippet Quadriplets

Web surfers and website owners alike can benefit from the new changes that Google has made to search result pages. This update began with Google searches offering more results from a single domain if search terms indicated an interest in that particular domain. Google has now updated this feature to include up to four results from a single domain, allowing search terms to provide users with more than one result from multiple domains. The additional results use one-line descriptions, keeping search pages looking compact and streamlined.

What this means for Google users is a quicker, easier way to get the results they want. Instead of a search providing only a link to the homepage of a relevant website, further pages such as specific products, business location and hours, or current shows at a local venue may also be provided. This eliminates the extra step of a user having to browse through a site found via search to locate the specific information he or she was looking for in the first place.

For website owners, the updated search feature means better visibility to a targeted audience. Quality content has always been important to search rankings, but with this addition to Google, webmasters can now anticipate results not only for their home pages, but for many relevant pages within their sites. If a user is searching for red widgets, for example, and types in a query that can be fulfilled by a widget company called Widget World, Google may be able to direct the user right to a page selling red widgets. Thus the user gets a quick and satisfactory result, while Widget World gets a sale that may not have happened had the user been forced to sift through site after site in search of red widgets.

Search results from Google are still diverse, providing a variety of sites for users to choose from as they browse for information. However, displaying targeted results from pertinent sites makes the search experience more user-friendly and can generate more relevant traffic for websites and businesses.

The new Google search algorithms aim to provide the best results possible to users. By providing targeted links to pages within a particular domain, Google search makes finding pertinent information much easier for users.
