Interview with Elliot Loney, the man in the ‘Man Vs Wild’ spoof video filmed in Melbourne, Australia.
Tell our audience a bit about you.
As long as I can remember, Ive always been the class clown – always had massive enjoment from making people laugh. This year I have realised that life is too short to not at least try to do something you love. I dont want to end up years down the track and not know that I gave it my best shot.
What was the best and the worst thing about filming Man Vs Metro?
I’d have to say the best thing about filming it, was working with Max. We have a really similar sense of humour and we get along really well. We have been talking about doing it for ages, while he was away I came up with the concept of “Man Vs Metro” and when he got back I pitched it to him and we instantly starting working on it. To see it all come together was a great feeling.
We had a lot of fun filming it, there wasnt anything bad about it. The only thing I can think of is it wasnt a busy day in Melbourne so there were less people for me to bounce off. It still worked out really well though, so I’m very happy with it.
How much did you practice to get Bear Grylls right?
I love impersonating people, I’ve done it ever since I was a kid. In the school yard I used to impersonate my mates and got a lot of laughs out of it. Then I realised I could impersonate celebrities as well. I’m a huge fan of Man Vs. Wild, I was watching it with a mate one day and spontaneously did Bear’s voice. We both started laughing and it just went from there.
Which people are you able to impersonate?
I love to do voices that are well known, so more people can relate. You get a better response because people know who they are. It’s just something that I love to do. There’s some I get asked to do more than others, but there’s 80 or so voices that I can also cover.
The video has gone from 3,000 to nearly 100,000 views in one day, do you think this will make you famous?
At the moment I’m just stoked with the response this video has received in such a short time. I haven’t really thought about that yet, the prospect of me getting paid to do something that I love would be a dream come true for me.
Tell us one highlight we can expect from the next episode of Man Vs Metro.
Haha, I don’t want to give away too much yet, let’s just say it will be one hell of an adventure!
