Easier Domain Verification – But Only for GoDaddy & eNom
Unfortunately not every single one of us has the technical knowledge to edit their HTML or PHP when something is wrong on our website. In fact most people don’t have enough knowledge to setup their FTP and at the same time verify their domain ownership.
There are several ways to verify the ownership of the domain.
1. Download the html file and upload it to your root domain
2. By adding a meta tag to the site’s homepage
3. Adding a DNS record through your hosting provider
4. Or if you already have Google Analytics set, just by selecting the options and clicking verify will do the trick
Well, now there is a fifth method to verify domain ownership. Sounds great, right? Well I thought so too until I read the entire announcement. The process is simple as pie, and you have the full tutorial in the announcement, it takes about 30 seconds to verify the ownership of the new domain, which is great for non techy users, but only if they use GoDaddy or eNom as their hosting providers.
What about the rest of us? Well, nothing it seems. Google announced that they will soon be brining this feature to BlueHost users, the rest will just have to line up and wait until the other hosting companies make an arrangement with Google, and the great announcement that should have made my day left me to wonder why didn’t they clearly say so in the headline? Do they assume we all use GoDaddy?
This is a great feature and non techy users will love it, I love it, but until it’s available for everyone, everywhere, it’s not easier like they claim, it’s easier for a few, and the same for the rest.
