Can Coding Errors Affect SEO?

There are many common misconceptions surrounding SEO; most involve keywords and backlinks but some even include the actual code of the website itself. Does coding have an impact on SEO?

codeMost say that it doesn’t. This likely stems from the fact that w3c validation is confirmed to have no impact whatsoever on page rank and SEO. However, this doesn’t mean that coding in general isn’t important in terms of SEO. Coding is essentially the foundation of a website and poor, improper coding can cause trouble with indexing.

Getting indexed by the search engines is important and in order to be indexed the website must be crawled. Dirty code can get in the way of the search engine’s attempts to crawl the site, sometimes even resulting in pages not being indexed at all.

Usually if the text that should be indexed by the search engine is visible in a web browser or text file it can be read and recognized by the crawlers. Loading up your website in multiple browsers and looking over the text is a good way to check and see if your text can be read.

The cleaner the coding the better in terms of avoiding potential SEO complications.
