Bing Webmaster Guidelines Published

For all webmasters looking to score some traffic from other search engines and not just Google there is a good news, Bing just published their webmaster guidelines.

As you can see in their announcement yesterday Bing webmaster guidelines are covering just the very basics unlike Google webmaster guidelines.

As with everything Google does, sooner or later they release a guide or guidelines for the right way of doing things. This time they released the guidelines for something that was long overdue, rich snippets.

The new post published on GWT blog presents the idea of rich snippet guidelines with some short examples.

 

Google Tag Manager is Here

Google finally got around to address the issues of tags. As you know too many tags are not good for your site, on the contrary a few won’t help you much, well, it seems that Google has found a solution for us in the form of Google Tag Manager.

 

Structured Data Testing Tool Available in GWT

Google once again made it easier for webmasters to make sure that their rich snippets are up to standards by improving the rich snippet testing tool into structured data testing tool.

New post was published at GWT blog to announce the release of this new shiny improvement that brings the following to the table:

-          Better display of rich snippet in the testing tool, made to resemble how we see them in search results

-          More languages added

-          New visual design

You can have some fun with the testing tool, trying out rich snippets before you place them on your site or you can try out different examples gives in the structured data tool as previews.

Google rolls out Panda, Penguin and a bunch of other updates to get us away from spam, well we stopped using keyword meta tags a few years back, but guess what, meta tags are back, but as it seems, only for news sites.

 

New Filtering and Custom Variable Options for eCommerce sites

Goggle Analytics New Filtering

Google Analytics brought on a new update to their tracking code, this one will improve the filtering and custom variables for ecommerce sites. The change is intended to help ecommerce webmasters to: “better filter, segment and categorize the revenue generating portion of your traffic.”

Other changes that come with this update include expanded filters that support page title, hostname, request URL & internal search term.

 

Bing Improves Webmaster Tools with Changes to Site Activities Widget

Bing made a new move to improvem the data provided to webmasters through Bing Webmaster tools. The new change affected the activities widget found in the Bing WT dashboard.

Vincent Wehren wrote in the announcement post:

“For the metrics Clicks from search, Appeared in search, Pages crawled, and Crawl errors we will now show you the percent change for the selected date range (as selected in the date selector near the top of the dashboard) compared to the prior date range of the same length. 

 

Google Webmaster Tools Now Offer Search Queries Alerts

With a few new updates to Google Webmaster Tools, Google team decided to add one more, one that compliments the recent addition of crawl errors alerts [1].

GWT now offers alerts for search queries [2].  Javier Tordable of Google wrote:

“The Search Queries feature in Webmaster Tools shows, among other things, impressions and clicks for your top pages over time.

 

Google Search Engine Algorithm Update – New Signal

Amit Singhal posted a new update on the Google’s Inside Search Blog relating to a new update to their search algorithm that is going to start next week.

The new signal that will be enlisted into over 200 existing signals is the number of valid copyright removal notices that Google receives for any website out there.
