Successfully Cloaking in 2013?

I am well-aware that Google’s algorithm is work in progress and they continuously work on improving their search quality algorithm. What I saw today, however, makes me wonder if I give the algorithm too much credit.

Search query “assumptious” brings up the following page:

I was shocked to see something like this ranking as #1 even for rare queries.…

John Mueller from Google has recently stated1 that the link disavow tool had a little upgrade. Their team has made the tool smarter and safer to use by adding a feature which checks for common mistakes. Cheating Penguin is Easy

TL;DR: Google’s latest Penguin update doesn’t seem to detect unnatural link surges or anchor text abuse from expired domain link networks.

OMG! Algorithm Update is off the Scale

Matt Cutts wasn’t wrong, the latest algorithm change was major. Algoroo was off the scale yesterday, we don’t even have a gauge that goes that high in our roo metric widget.

Even though the estimated percentage of affected queries was apparently quite low, we’re still seeing major fluctuations (both ups and downs) in the 10,000 tracked keywords.…

Google+ Hashtags: Initial Observations

One of the more interesting aspects of Google+ redesign in my opinion is the new way of #hashtag handling. This short post goes over a few basic observations I’ve made so far.

Triggering

What I find interesting is that certain keywords trigger the tag, while others do not.…

Crowdsourcing: Googler’s Examples of Bad Links

Bad Links

Google’s webspam team consists of people who look at spammy links on a daily basis and can recognise bad links quickly. These people also help webmasters recover from penalties by guiding them through the reconsideration process. Part of the process often includes examples of remaining bad links and this is what we’re interested in.…

May 2013: A Massive Algorithm Update at Google?

It started in Australia as many webmasters and SEOs noticed a Venice-like update and now it looks like we’re looking at a global algorithm change.

mozcast

Mozcast shows a very turbulent 5th of May.

Jim Stewart was one of the first Australian SEOs to spot the change saying “ They’ve replaced places for organic…”.…
